Deadline for Nominations to be a Trustee

All entries must be submitted to the Clerk by 12 noon on Saturday 1st June to be entered as a candidate in the forthcoming Trustee Elections. Tutti Day!

Come and join us as we celebrate the ancient ceremony of Hocktide on Tutti Day. Did you know that Hungerford is one of only a very few, possibly the only town in the country to still celebrate this historic day that dates back to early medieval times, and is one of England’s most ancient town events.

Hocktide from years gone by 

Tuesday – Tutti Day (Hocktide) – a long action-packed day…

8am – Town Hall Balcony – Summoning of all Commoners to Hocktide Court
The Bellman will sound the Constable’s Horn from the Town Hall balcony. All Commoners will be summoned by the bell and proclamation to attend the Hocktide Court.

9am – Town Hall steps – Tutti Men set off The Constable, Ellie Dickins, sends the Tutti Men on their way to visit the Commoners, along with the Orange man and Tutti Wenches.
The Constable presents the decorated Tutti Poles to the Tutti Men (also known as Tything Men) who, accompanied by the Orangeman and Tutti Girls, set off to collect the dues from the Common Right properties.

9.05am – Town Hall – Hocktide Court
The selected Hocktide Jury attend and all Commoners are called. Spectators are welcome to watch and listen to this very old tradition.

7.30pm – Corn Exchange
The Hungerford Town Band play for the pleasure of the people of Hungerford.

The last port of call for the Tutti Men. The Constable and collected people of Hungerford welcome them safely back at the end of their long and arduous day.

Join River Keeper and ARK Committee Member Rob Starr on Saturday 15th June for an early morning walk along the riverbanks to enjoy the birds and other wildlife.

We’ll meet at 5.45am, in the Fisherman’s car park at Denford, for a prompt 6am start.

Not an ARK member? No problem, you can join now or on the day, it’s £20 for an individual or £30 for a family.

Finish your morning with a breakfast/bacon sandwich at a local premises at the end of the walk.
